M1889 DANISH KRAG
The loading gate on the righthand side of the receiver helps to quickly identify this rifle as a Krag. Unlike the U. S. Krags, however, the loading gates on these Danish rifles are hinged to the front.

With this arrangement, the rifle has to be turned on its left side in order to load cartridges into the magazine (which has a five-round capacity). (The spring-loaded magazine cover has been propped open with a thin wooden dowel in this image, so that the magazine follower can be seen.) Note the receiver markings indicating the model, and place and year of manufacture.
